Native of Brockville Ontario, mezzo-soprano Megan Quick is an almunus of the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio, and a current member of the Canadian Opera Company Chorus. During her time in the ensemble Quick took on roles in the dramatic mezzo-soprano fach as a cover and continues to appear regularly with the company. Her repertoire centers around the 19th century dramatic repertoire of Verdi, Wagner and Strauss. Celebrated as having a unique and versatile instrument the scope of her roles in the Wagner repertoire spans from the low depths of Erda to the souring declamations of Fricka. Other notable roles in her repertoire include Mrs. Grose (Turn of the Screw), La Principessa (Suor Angelica), Waltraute & 1. Norn (Die Walküre), Azucena (Il Trovatore), the Witch (Hänsel und Gretel) and Ježibaba (Rusalka).

 

While with the Canadian Opera Company, Quick also performed in various concerts as a part of the Richard Bradshaw Concert Series. Some highlights include performances of Alexander Zemlinsky’s Six songs after poems by Maeterlinck, excerpts from Confession Stone by Canadian composer, Robert Fleming, as well as original compositions by her fellow Ensemble members Stéphane Mayer and Danika Lorèn.

Quick holds a Diploma of Operatic Performance from the University of Toronto, a  Masters in Performance from Guildhall School of Music and Drama (London, England) and a Bachelor of Music from Dalhousie University (Halifax, Nova Scotia).
